The Governor Punjab Eng Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman Sunday said that quality seed always play a key role in boosting agriculture production to meet ever increasing food staple needs of challenging growing population explosion.
It was stated by him while talking to Shahzad Ali Malik ,member of provincial seed committee and Chairman Pakistan Hitech Hybrid Seed Association (PHHSA) here today.
He said the use of high quality seeds is one of the most important elements in increasing agricultural production in any farming system as well as a cornerstone of any successful agriculture program.
He said this element has become more crucial than ever for providing enough food security for the rising number of population in the world which is expected to exceed nine billion by year 2050,he added.
He said quality seed is the fundamental element in crop production which not only doubles and triples the yield but also decreases cost of production considerably besides preventing spread of weeds,diseases and pests.
Shahzad Ali Malik who is also founder chairman rice exporters association of Pakistan (REAP) and Chairman United Business Group said Governor a couple of days ago has constituted three committees one each for Rice,Cotton and other crops for suggesting ways and means to evolve new varieties of hi tech hybrid seeds in private sector for attaining bumper agriculture production.
He said it’s good omen that Governor is evincing keen interest for the promotion of agriculture sector on modern scientific lines especially focussing on use of Hitech hybrid seeds.
