Trip to Critz Farms in Cazenovia, Continues Maple syrup Celebration

If you are looking for the full maple syrup aesthetic, Critz Farms in Cazenovia has been the place to be the past two weekends.

The Maple Syrup Celebration with Critz Farms includes feature tours, wagon rides and an all you can eat breakfast buffet. So far, the celebration has been drawing a large number of individuals and their families from across Central New York.

The farm’s website lists the following to its itinerary:

  • Wagon rides through the tree fields to the maple sugarbush
  • Visit the vacuum system at sap collection station in our woods
  • Informational tours of the Sugar House, including tapping and sap collection, boiling, syrup production, as well as bottling
  • All You Can Eat breakfast buffet at the Critz Café
  • Kiddie Corral and Slide Mountain children’s play areas will be open (weather permitting)
  • Nature Trails open – wear your boots!

Tours and activities run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and delicious hard ciders and handcrafted beers will be available in the Tasting Room which opens at 10:00 a.m.

During the Maple Syrup Celebration, admission to the farm is free and no tickets are required for entry. However there will be charges for visitors interested in enjoying any food and beverages from the Critz Cafe or Tasting Room.

Here’s a look at the various activities, via Weather Authority Meteorologist Josh Kozlowski.

1. Inside the Sugar House where they show how to do tapping of trees, collection of sap, boiling it, syrup production as well as bottling.

2. Inside the Tasting Room where you can sample or get a flight or pint of Hard Cidars, Craft Beers and Wine including a Maple Porter and Maple Moon Hard Cider.

Another smaller building on the farm is where the all-you-can-eat breakfast was. The location of a popular item for the farm, its maple ham.

The farm has the usual Maple food items such as maple candy, maple sugar, maple cream and their traditional maple syrup. Unlike other maple syrup producers in the area, they have little spoon samples of this Bourbon Barrel Aged Pure Maple Syrup.

Maple celebrations started Saturday, March 18 on the farm and will continue on weekends through Sunday, April 2.
