Home Department Commences Three-day Conference for Agriculture Extension Officers on Agriculture Policy

Dharamshala: The agriculture division under the Department of the Home kicked off its three-day meeting, from 9 – 11 May 2023, for Agriculture Extension Officers (AEO) on agriculture policy at Dharamshala.

The meeting was inaugurated yesterday in the presence of the Home Secretary, Palden Dhondup, along with the Chief Representative Officer of South Zone, Jigme Tsultrim. A total of 15 AEOs from 9 different settlements, namely Bylakupee, Kollegal, Hunsur, Odisha, Mainpat, Mundgod, Tenzingang, Miao, and Nepal, attended the conference.

During the inaugural ceremony, the Home Secretary emphasised the importance of agriculture activities and briefed the participants about implementing a new agriculture policy and agriculture division structure.

It was followed by an Individual AEOs’ presentation. Each AEO gave a brief presentation on the agricultural activities that are being conducted in their respective settlements.

The primary objectives behind this conference is to discuss the new agriculture policy and the implementation of new agricultural division structures based at ORTC in Bylakupee.

Moreover, the three-day meeting will cover the following agendas, including the New Agriculture structure and Policy discussion. In view of agriculture policy, the new policy will be based on the respective settlement areas and discuss several agriculture issues, including Agriculture farming and Animal Husbandry, soil and water conservation, Agriculture loan, Demonstration farm, crop security, and usage of pesticides, etc. Subsequently, the new agriculture policy will be framed based on these topics.

The three days conference for AEO on Agricultural policy is fully funded by USAID.
