Hollywood Actor-Activists in Austin to Promote Documentary on Regenerative Farming

Some of Hollywood’s top talent were in Austin on Wednesday to shine the spotlight on regenerative agriculture. They were promoting the documentary, Common Ground, which raises awareness about the food movement that calls for a more holistic approach to farming.

“Hello Austin,” said actor Ian Somerhalder who introduced the film to a sold-out crowd.

Somerhalder is known for playing Boone Carlyle in the TV drama Lost and Damon Salvatore in The CW’s supernatural drama The Vampire Diaries. He told the audience that regenerative farming can change how farmers grow food and take care of their land.

“We got this people. We are in it. We will stop climate change in its tracks,” said Somerhalder. “I am not trying to sound all Hollywood dramatic, but this film can change everything. This is how we do it. We just need farmers having the money to learn regeneration.”

The Austin premier of Common Ground also brought Entourage star Adrian Grenier to the green carpet.

“I think people want change and I think they have to change their relationship to what they eat and each other and their relationship to the earth,” said Grenier.

Other actor-activists such as Laura Dern, Jason Momoa, Woody Harrelson, Donald Glover, and Rosario Dawson are lending their voices to the film and the push for more sustainable farming.

Regenerative farming is based on the concept that soil, water, crops, animals, and people are interconnected. It is not a new idea, but Common Ground director Josh Tickell wants to raise awareness that healthier soil ensures the long-term viability of the land.

“This is a road show we are taking across the country and we’re driving towards Washington DC with the message of saving farms, farmers, and soil and really helping the planet. Austin is a necessary stop because you are a big agriculture state,” said Josh Tickell.

Common Ground is the sequel to the impactful documentary, Kiss the Ground.

“Everybody can support farmers who are practicing regeneration. They really need our help right now because the government is not doing it. So as consumers one of the best things we can do for your bodies, the climate and to help local farmers is to support them,” said Rebecca Tickell, Common Ground director.
